Mississippi hasn't had a Black U.S. senator since 1881, despite electing the first two Black senators in U.S. history: Hiram Revels + Blanche K. Bruce.
After Reconstruction ended, white supremacists went to work to permanently destroy Black political power in MS.
His 64% Black district includes Jackson and the Delta.
To this day, it disproportionately disenfranchises Black voters.
Today, it disenfranchises more people than made the difference in the 2019 and 2023 governor's races.

This is why Confederate memorials bother me. We should have statues of people that we want to emulate. Either those that WON, or that were martyrs in noble causes.
