🌱 I'm curious why my cosmos haven't been thriving the last couple years but my pumpkins and kale have been making up for it. I know it's only summer but I'm soooo ready for autumn and early winter so I can get started on improvements for next growing season. #gardening

Look at the marigolds
You have deep rich soil
Cosmos hate that
Plant something else
My soil is crap so I direct sow..hey,try zinnias (although I think they don't care for too much organic matter either -they'll just flower and flower if you cut them)
If you're that type of gardener

Last summer I learned that cosmos bloom earlier in poor soil. I had dutifully fertilized mine, which grew to over 6ft without a single bud. Just before first frost they exploded with blossoms.
