Unless Mr Philp believes that naturalised British citizens should be called "people who are foreign", the correct stat is 17%. He has been misled by Professor Goodwin

Well the demon headmistress and a few others have laid the groundwork for anybody non-white to be foreign. What else are they, since apparently they're not English?
Phelps is a nazi piece of work. Meanwhile just heard someone on radio 4 saying that of current immigrants, it’s an estimated 1% that are ‘irregular’ as in haven’t been through the correct immigration procedure. (Cannot and will not use the word ‘process’.) #NewcomersWelcome
Oh. Philb is a Tory. That unique combo of nastiness being dimwitted enough not to understand basic principles inherent to the late Tory Party on full display.
When I was 11 my family moved to Basildon, apart from one small estate all housing was social housing. In retrospect I see it as hugely liberating and had social benefits eg: teachers could live near the school they taught in.
You either make people citizens or you don’t. But you definitely don’t make people citizens and then moan about them having the same rights that all other citizens enjoy.
the principle reason that working people still require transfer payments from government (be that housing or cash) is that they arent paid enough. in other words taxpayers provide an indirect subsidy to their employer
Yes and many of those will be doctors/nurses/care workers employed in NHS. Some will be married to British citizens not yet naturalised (it’s costly and can take years). Also social housing includes some shared ownership properties (so people working and buying their own home.)
It’s a series of knowing lies. @conservatives.bsky.social cannot shake the compulsion to lie as a quick high, rather than being honest with the country
Also completely ignores the "hand-up" nature of SH - stable, affordable housing enables people to take jobs, study, qualify, earn more & pay more taxes.

You'd be very unlikely to get a mortgage on shared ownership if you weren't working or paying tax!

it is indeed morally wrong that 48% pay no tax because they're on low income jobs or no income.
why can't they get meaningful, well paid, jobs? how are zero hours jobs allowed to exist? how can employers pay an absolute pittance?
a lot of the poor are in full time work.
