Remember: the televised punishment & humiliation meted out to Zelensky just now could be done to any NATO ally facing similar aggression. The sense of sneering hostility & contempt by Trump & Vance isn’t specific to Ukraine.

The UK is showing that it's possible to align climate action, economic growth and high-wage jobs. Net-zero economy growth in 2024: 10% Net-zero jobs pay: £5,600 per year above national average www.theguardian.com/environment/...

You can add basic factual errors to the list of things that are wrong with the BBC’s news reporting (it was 13 months, so much closer to one year than two)

And I am an ally. If you are too, let the world know.

Being a highly qualified black person or woman = "mired in woke culture"

Michael Young coined the phrase "meritocracy" as satire, and then he fathered Toby Young in case people didn't get the joke.

If you’re lucky, you’re on this earth for maybe, what, 70, 80 years? Is it really too much to ask you to just leave other people alone and let them try to have a nice life without being be an absolute nob head about it?

Putin says Trump must go further before he’ll even agree to meet. Putin is entirely in the driving seat. The US has alienated its own allies, given Russia nearly all of what it wanted, bought Putin’s warped view of reality, and can’t even guarantee a meeting. The art of the deal, indeed.

Controversial take: we could do with more people in Parliament who can fix church roofs and fewer who fixate on Twitter engagement.

New post, in which I get quite angry.

This is true. A pal of mine who is a policeman went to a Scottish island recently to investigate a missing person and when the locals found out he was a Christian they stuck him in a giant human-shaped willow branch construction and burned him alive.

I've seen a lot of comment about Glasman of late that doesn't really take in – well, lots of things he says publicly, so we've laid out some of them here. I think his view on Trumpism is a fundamental political choice, and should colour our understanding of his other interventions:

All of this.

This has long been the only explanation I have for why working class people repeatedly vote for parties that act against their interests, cutting taxes for the wealthy and paying for it by cutting public services.

Says a US administration which, last time I looked, was still barring Associated Press from White House events because it refuses to change its style guide so "Gulf of Mexico" is renamed "Gulf of America".

An excellent example of how even the threat of tariffs is inflationary.

This is great by @draliceevans.bsky.social on how feminism became mainstream in the 70s: www.ggd.world/p/how-do-rad... I wonder if or how socialism can achieve something similar these days.

Labour are never going to be viewed as being as tough on immigration as Reform. Focussing on it iincreases the salience of the issue Reform want to talk about. Many Reform voters have had enough of Labour and the Tories and don't trust them. They're not sitting around waiting to be wooed back.

Let's take a moment to enjoy this headline from the Mail which highlights trans men are not women

If I told you that the Bank of England upgraded its growth forecasts yesterday, would you believe me? It did.... i HAvE nOt gOne CRazY - honest This is a hill I am prepared to die on - the BoE and others (all central banks, IMF, OECD etc etc) report their "forecasts" in a terrible way 🧵

This.

You wouldn't know the country. It goes to a different United Nations.

Labour announced over £69 billion government funding for councils, a 6.8% cash-terms increase, but sure Labour are carrying on with austerity. The Greens are deliberately misleading you with false claims of austerity.

Stan Laurel visiting his mum and dad in 1932. Trust me. You need this. youtu.be/J3K43OEC9jw?...

I think I just heard the BBC on my radio both-siding the ethnic cleansing of Gaza with a 'on one hand some people call Trump's idea creative' or something. I could hardly believe my ears. The acme of what's wrong with 'both sides' journalism.

#PIP People in mental distress often use pip to pay for therapy as unable to get support on NHS. For many it’s used to pay bills, pay towards rent & every day essentials. Cut this & disabled people won’t be able to live & will be further marginalised in society

The Geneva Convention (which the US has ratified) forbids the permanent and forcible removal of citizens from their homes.

Them: ignore what he says, pay attention to what he does. Me: ok Him: does the thing he said he would do. Them: oh

This is very good and thorough on that Channel 4 poll claiming half of Gen Z think we’d be better off with a dictator.

I’m old enough to remember when Hillary Clinton lost an election because of one private email server.

You lost me at ‘Lord Glasman’. www.politicshome.com/news/article...

I think it’s important to understand that they aren’t going to crater the economy as part of some 11-dimensional chess move. They are going to crater the economy because they are very, very stupid, and cannot handle being told “no.”

Idgaf I’m still fighting for guaranteed healthcare. Aspiration is the answer. Not just “we’re not the bad guys.” We need something more meaningful than that. I want a future worth fighting for. They have no vision. We do. Lean into our strengths and knock them out. 👊🏽

True. But in Hamman’s defence (wait, what?), at least he was an elected representative unlike say, Toby Young or the Tufton St mob.

This would be a great feature.

Mad and evil. At one point referring to Biden administration hiring people with disabilities as an example of ATC staff not being of being qualified for the job.
