I don't understand or agree with observing 'Transfiguration Sunday' on the Sunday before Lent/Lent 2.

It is the Sunday on which we read that gospel not the feast. In the same way that we read the visitation on advent 4 as well as the feast of the visitation

This makes total sense! And also, I realise the reason I was confused was because I’d mixed up the words ‘transfiguration’ and ‘ascension’ (which obviously comes after Lent and would be very odd to have now).

Lk 9.31 (this year) "who ... spoke of his departure, [exodos] which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem" makes the link to the Passion particularly obvious. Whether that was the link....

Yes, you’re right. I had a bit of moment and mixed up the words transfiguration and ascension, hence my own confusion.
