A thing that gives me hope for humanity is that, given infinite virtual worlds to conquer, so many of us immediately just want to build a cool little house and have pets.

I think one of the base traits of humanity is kindness. The problems start when people start moving away from humanity in order to gain more money/power/fame. Part "people as things," as Granny Weatherwax once put it, and part Toddler Rules of Ownership.
I do this in so many games. I'll even make random fireplaces with chests of supplies in random places in Don't Starve Together because I like being able to help people when I can (and as a freelancer with a physical disability, that's one of the only ways I can help people rn)
Same. I don’t play that game but it sounds awesome. I love to make cozy houses and give generational families stable relationships and good lives with things that are more than just bare necessities.
Over here looking at my bolted lettuce which I was supposed to harvest for seed, but which is currently hosting a horde of very HONGRY little cabbage white adjacent rups. Y'all can just have it, we're cool.
Every time I play Mass Effect I tell myself I'll let this character or that character die and oops I'm at the party in 3 and everyone is alive and well and having a good time
