I’ve never understood why there’s a cap to begin with.
My taxes contribute to services I don’t use, but I still have to pay the full amount. It should be the same for everyone.

Agree with making wealth pay their share. And, maybe a tax is just a tax, no matter what you call it. SS tax is based on income and tied to the benefit available. Benefits top out at a rate equaling $168,600 of income and that’s the rate to which the wealthy are taxed. Seems somewhat logical to me.

This is why Musk and his ilk want to gut Social Security. Not to fund a tax cut for themselves, but to avoid paying a rational tax rate in the future. They'll sit on a pike of gold even if it bankrupts our country and sees the elderly live in filth.

I would not scrap the cap -- then it becomes a wealth re-distribution program (welfare) and will be a target for cutting just like every other welfare program we've had whether we need it or not. But a one-time increase in the cap is a great idea, and raise it every year with inflation.
