Anyway the real thing here is that, in fact, they provably *changed* both their ToS and how they apply it in response to Singal's actions, which will be a major point brought up in the inevitable lawsuits that result from this debacle
"We absolutely must not tell stochastic terrorists that they can do whatever they want with or to our users with no repercussions by simply screenshotting the content we have described as "protected" and carrying out their harassment and doxxing campaigns on another site."
But liking an unrelated post from someone who posts completely fictional ero-guro art does violate their guidelines. Society if they shitcanned Aaron Rodericks (flying cars)
I'd like to clarify: I'm not blaming derek. I absolutely put the fault square on Change for being somewhat grifty about how they do their petitions. A lot of their wording implies that your signature on the petition is not effective unless you give money.
technically they're saying you can't yell nazi shit into the megaphone outside. but if you go to a nazi clubhouse with a picture of a bar patron, start nodding vigorously and winking, that's completely ok and you're not responsible for the results
I will give them this: There writing skills need work. There's a lot of grammar issues and in some spots it just felt like a word salad...or as if they let anyone A.I. write this stuff without checking it. The Trust & Safety people need to do better or this place will not last long.
From what I understand: a known bad actor and kiwifarms affiliate has doxxed multiple people, including sharing photos of private medical records.
Bluesky has not banned them, and this is the closest they've come to acknowledging it.
they want to have their cake and eat it, too. they want us to moderate by making block lists, while they keep those criminals in other streams. they don't care; fend for yourselves, "w5r gave you the tools!"
disappointment is too little a word for what I'm feeling.
Building back better with Bluesky means we get to rethink how social media works. ATProto is a big piece of this, it's open and gives users choice, but also means the common understanding of membership and moderation has to be updated.
I do appreciate the anti-troll sentiment to block and not ...
engage as a change in our human behavior on social media.
We might also appreciate that Bluesky the company has to walk a different line then some of us may want, but that they also gave us the means to curate our own experience on top of the open systems they are building.
Comments
So I think all they're saying there is "simply screenshotting something and making a comment about it" isn't a violation of guidelines.
I don't think anyone thought it was?
But the comments are still meant to be subject to guidelines.
I think?

Are we upset that people can use screenshots to communicate ignorant things they just cannot outright type?

Even if they get kicked off of Bluesky, those we do not want around can still run their own servers and post to #atproto
