I personally know one of the people who negotiated this deal. Need to know context. Gas was virtually worthless & stranded at time.
Yes, oil & gas companies dont pay enough taxes. They are their own worst enemy due to poor project execution & huge capex overruns. Aus gas is now simply uneconomic

10 years ago I heard Ian McFarlane on ABC radio explicitly stating that exports came before domestic demand on the east coast. They were happy for industry to shut down if it meant they could keep shipping it out. They didn’t even try to hide it.
