There is little to no debate among serious historians that Jesus existed. That's not to say there is none or that there is definitive proof, but to bring up his historical existance or lack thereof is.. well I'd call it silly, others might disagree.

His status as "son of God" is a different story.

It depends on what you'd accept as proof. There is enough to suggest someone brought together a big group of people in a new religious movement, they traveled around, preached and were later executed by the romans. And those are non-Christian sources that are not part of the bible.

The two scholars I have read are Thomas L. Thompson and Richard Carrier. There's also Robert Price, but I haven't read anything of his, so can't comment on it's usefulness.
