I haven't drawn Belial/Ellior a lot with Husk which is a crime, but Husk is a divine son who reacted badly to The Light and had to be siphoned. Shades are trained to be unseen hands to divine sons, and are usually assigned very early in their lives.

Ellior is a weird case b/c he came to the church late after being hidden by his family, so he and Husk met when they were both pre-teens! Husk did NOT like Ellior at first but they became very good friends b/c Ellior treated him very well.

IT ISN'T GREAT. The Shades are treated TERRIBLY. Siphoning is the alternative to turning into monsters (that reflect the monster that their god is), but it's still a painful process that is done with an arcane machine.
After Ellior becomes the new god, he's able to do it painlessly!

The problem is that their god needs to be the one doing it, but it doesn't really care about the divine sons b/c they are a creation of man (by taking medicine made from the god's flowers and their babies turning out divine)
Once Ellior knows he can do it peacefully, he RUNS whenever he can help!
