I love watching black friday lie sales go up in real time b/c I've had this part for my PC open in a tab and now it says it's "on sale" but the price is the same as it was yesterday and they're claiming it was higher before.

You should probably purchase soon before tariffs start. Electronics are expected to increase in price up to 45%, at least according to the YT vid I saw. Appliances too. I’m getting a fridge and a hot water heater. Replaced W/D last year👍
Amazon is the worst about this. On prime day, a few of the things I was watching were actually more expensive than the week before (not by much, but still).
It's an act that has hefty fines in Canada I believe, but I can't speak beyond that. (Looking it up the fines can be 750k to 10 mill depending) It certainly -should- be illegal or regulated though :T it's scummy.
I want to say that the eu + canada has laws against it but in America we just love lying <3 but sometimes they just jack up prices the week before just to bring em back down to original
It's not legal and is considered a bait and switch in some situations and often amazon does it where they sometimes will list a product as being 400 originally and have it marked 80% off to make it the actual price/if not higher to drive in sales. A lot of companies are being fined for it now as too
Before making a purchase on Amazon, I like checking. It's good to know how the current price truly compares with the average. https://camelcamelcamel.com/
Yes! It's to give people the impression that the sale wont last! Get it now! Which often especially strikes a fear in poor people as we always have to find something as a bargain to get by naturally. So it's predatory sales tactics unfortunately. That's why now I won't buy anything big unless
Well it is kinda on in my country. Like they still can do it, but they legally have to put the lowest price from the past 30 days somewhere visible near the new price.
✅I’m not sure if we’ve ever bought anything actually brand new that wasn’t discounted for all the wrong reasons but we stil but that sh*t🤣🤣
All scams💯💯
If you put the things you want in the cart but don't buy it, they will send you bigger and bigger discounts. Your cart is cash for them and they will discount to get that cash.
The grocery store I used to work at would put these few specific cuts of meat on “sale” for a dollar off in a rotation. During that items sale week they would also raise the price by $1 💀
thats all black friday sales, tbh. I've worked in retail for almost 15 years and black friday sales havent been legit for like 10+ years. they're always fake.
they always mark up the price slightly a month or two ahead of time and then put it on "sale" for it's original price.
Where I'm from there is a law stating that the starting price must be a real price, meaning that the products must have been sold at that price for at least 30 days. Still, some cheat, some hike the prices 30 days before. Good thing we have services like PriceSpy that keeps record.
Best Buy has been doing this for years. It is a real shame because if they gave us even the most lackluster discounts, I would still probably buy something there for almost every Black Friday.
In EU they have to write the lowest price from last 30 days when product is on sale.
While it isn't anything groundbreaking, since we had websites that that track prices of every possible product in every store it is now much easier for regular people to see it.
only tangentially related, but i remember yeaaaaaarrrrs ago i had the civ4 games on my steam wishlist, and they were like $15. but EVERY steam sale, the price would suddenly say it ACTUALLY costed like $30 and this 'new' price is a steal
A TV I'm watching dropped $300 to compete with Amazon Prime days. The price has stayed at the level since although supposedly expires 12/8 when I'm counting on it dropping lower before the new models come out. Might have to rethink that last part due to tariffs.
That's almost an established practice in my country. BLACK FRIDAY OMG DISCOUNTS, but some stores left the "lowest price in the past 30 days" widgets up and you can easily see that the superduperBlackFriday price is still higher than what it was 2 weeks ago. Ridiculous.
YUP, or they like, inflate the price of the product a week or two before black friday, then lower it to the original amount and be like OMG HUGE SALE !!!! like no motherfucker i shop here weekly i know how much this costs
There actually is a law in germany where you have to show the lowest price in the last 30 days next to the sale price when promoting a sale lol otherwise it's false advertisment and technically illegal
(Technically. Companies still break this law a lot and just pay the penality fee when caught 🤷🏻♀️)
People bitch about EU every time they hear we changed classification of tomato from vegetable to fruit but there is a lot of this pro consumer laws they don't have anywhere else in the world. Including 2 year guaranty we force apple to give (apple only had 1 hear for their products) and so more
You used to have to powerbomb a middle-aged woman through a glass table to get to the 99-cent bath towels first. Children were punched. There were fatalities. Black Friday is some kind of weird joke. "Fake Discount November" more like.
I’ve done this many times. I have an Amazon list of things I’m waiting for a decent sale on. I’ve got about 8 different tech pieces including pc parts and dslr lens and I catalog daily prices for each. Big sale days see those items ALL with much higher prices.

very rarely is a sale a good deal
companies really think they're slick huh
Black friday: only 699$ instead of 1099$
