“I’m just gonna sit here in the blessed solace of my car and collect myself for a while” hits so hard right when you get home from Thanksgiving with your family

When my kids were small, sitting alone in the car in my driveway for a few minutes before heading into the house was the closest thing I got to a vacation!
Thank you for speaking my “funk”. I am a widow-6 years now. No family-really. A 93 yo aunt by marriage-who frequently complains about my uncle “taking me in” (50 years ago!) All we talked about was dead, dying people. I’m exhausted 🤦♀️
So sorry 😞. I know how it feels. I am a social worker in Florida. I have to assist elderly magats on Medicare, Medicaid, and food stamps. Imagine how I feel whe they come to me to help them renew their applications while being supportive and smiling! Ugh! The irony 🙄
Hahahaha. I got out of the car after having been stuck in a folding chair for 2.5 hours and discovered I could barely walk because my back hurt too badly! Every supportive seat was taken by the younger and much younger generations.
That moment when you finally get some peace after the holiday chaos… the car is like your personal sanctuary. Sometimes, a few minutes of solitude is all you need to reset!
If you’re looking for additional solace options, might I suggest this one? (There’s a code until midnight for 25% off: BLKFRI) You genuinely might like this.
Q: why destroy yourself emotionally and spiritually just to spend a few hours with people who will grab your heart outta your chest, stomp all over it with both feet and walk away leaving you bloody and smashed to bits on the ground 🙃
Family gatherings can be stressful even if you like them all. So much noise and confusion - coping with all that energy is like stretching out a muscle you seldom use. I cope by taking breaks from the main crowd where possible.
My family is all dead so there's nobody to spend holidays with. So when my friends say oh I'm so sorry, I tell them about how I used to drive around in the car for an hour crying after spending any holiday with my family. Life is good now.
As a kid growing up in Belgium there was no such thing as Halloween. It just wasn’t a thing. It is now. Blew over from the US. Grateful Thanksgiving didn’t get the same treatment. Preparing myself for Christmas, always a challenge. ; )
This saddens me. Family dinners of celebration are a highlight in our extended family. People who married in prefer them to their own. One sister is anti Vax and leans far right but we take the time to either edit carefully or preface remarks with I respect your right to that opinion but i disagree
I seem to be spending more time ‘collecting myself in my car’, like it’s a sturdy cocoon designed to protect me from more than the terra firma hazards of the physical environment. I’m now a literal 🚙 in a harsh red 🌽state. 🤨
Here's a hug 🫂. That's why at 72 yrs old I spent yesterday in my pj's w takeout that I love & I immersed myself in Hallmark & old movies - under my favorite fleece blankie with happy colors that I bought from Buccees🦫

Sometimes you just gotta sit and let your brain take a moment.
That's why past vacations with some family feel like work, and going back to work feels like the vacation.

I 'decompress' and get into 'home mode'.
