This is also why you can't have Lex Luthor be secretly right. The world littered with greedy egotistical rich dudes. We can see what they're like. They're not hard-nosed realists being held back by meddling altruists. They're just assholes

Yeah, but he also kind of has that whole misogynistic dictator thing going on. Ivy, on the other hand, just wants to save the planet and make the world better. She also helped a bunch of orphans during Batman: Cataclysm.
In movies with a Wicked Witch, do these people root for the Witch? Do they root for Barzini in The Godfather? Who do they root for in Casablanca, and other WWII movies?
The subversive concept with Tony Stark was pretty much "Can we create a character who's a corporate capitalist asshole but make him interesting enough that '60s kids will read about him anyway?" Which isn't really subversive anymore and hasn't been for several decades, right?
And because Lex Luthor’s ideology is based on hate- hate for aliens (“the other”) in general and/or hate for Superman specifically. Powerful people (which Luthor is) who are motivated by hate are a very real kind of real life villain. If you take away that part of Luthor, that’s not Lex Luthor.

He just can't keep it together.
No. Just… no
Actually, if there's a villain in that film, it's the dumb Mayor. And with that suit with the anchors on it, he dresses like a Batman villain.
