When an organization has advantage of financial resources it is amazing how they can influence congress. We will see what the world’s wealthiest people will impose on the American people in the next four years. Most wealthy people are focused on wealth building, not on helping those in dire need.
Misinformation memes are not cool. Canada doesn't even have Pharmacare. There are only "33 developed nations" on the whole planet? Holy shit what century is this? Just cause it's a meme doesn't mean it is true. Expect to see lots of half baked shit in the next 4 years. Propaganda will be rampant.
It's more complicated than 'Canada doesn't have Pharmacare.' Many classes of people DO qualify for medication and now dental.
We have $0 cost for doctors, tests, ER visits. There's no deductible, yearly limit or lifetime limit for procedures covered under the provincial health plans
You're talking to a guy who pulled out all but 7 of his own teeth. Paid out hundreds for antiviral meds when I had shingles. I have refused to pay the "fee" for filling out my medical forms. There are lots of limits, ask a diabetic. I remember when we would get a bill in the mail for healthcare.
Well, pointing out that a system is not perfect is irrelevant. No system will be perfect. The OP was that the US has nothing comparable to the two dozen countries that do have national health plans.
It is difficult but it's so unamerican to just go 'nah, we aren't capable '
Most of the western European countries did it right after ww2 after destroying each other
The real reason is that in those countries the government is there to represent the people. Our government has evolved into an institution that represents the wealthiest members of our society. In Norway virtually all oil revenue goes into a fund to help its citizens. Our oil revenue goes to...
I’m so happy that our government has chosen this solution. Its aim is among other things to make sure the state has enough money for pensions in the future. Its current value is approx USD 2K billions. The government is allowed to use max 3% each year.
You are forgetting that those 32 countries are communist and that only the USA is fighting against that demon 🤪. Or are the millionaires manipulating us? Are we worshipping the Golden Calf?
The right has a strategy that we should borrow. KEEP REPEATING SOMETHING OVER AND OVER UNTIL PEOPLE BELIEVE IT.
Of course, ours isn't a lie, but why won't it work for the truth?
And Norway spend under half the money on free hospital and medicine, requiring only a 300 dollar annual maximum of fees. This is how your medical industry is milking the people. The difference is 21% of GDP for the US vs 10% in Norway.
It is not inability but the American Caste system that prevents acceptance. The wealthy REFUSE to be seen as accessing the same Healthcare system as the less off. 'Let 'em eat cake time.' Socialized medical care is embarrassing to wealthy America.
Met some Americans in Australia last week talking about the weather being 90 degrees….no one knew what they were on about? Celsius is the only thing we use here. You’d think Americans would know this? Are they living in a bubble? Don’t talk in Fahrenheit abroad…no one uses it.
Oh they figured it out long ago. A big fucking nothing burger for Americans hahaha and we voted for it.
Until this country stops giving unfettered control of our lives and finances to these feckless congress critters
National Voting for laws that will affect our future. No lobbyists the people will
You can thank Regressive Republicans for that.
Dems tried to get it done so many times but knuckledraggers shot it down.
We are the ONLY country where citizens go bankrupt over medical bills. USA USA USA right????
The only thing that is complicated with universal healthcare is what the private insurance provider are going to do without all the money they steal from the American public.
No developed nation with healthcare coverage for all has a worse healthcare system than the United States. We have mediocre outcomes with the highest prices.
The idea of national or "affordable" health insurance is literally the problem.
There is no reason why the US can't have fully nationalized decommodified healthcare, beyond corporate greed and corruption. Healthcare cannot be a market commodity and be affordable. That violates basic economic laws.
Don't kid yourself, it' only because of race! Giving blacks free education and health care still rubs the "people" the wrong way, regardless of the science and all other developed countries showing they're good social policy. The US is still still pissed that slavery was abolished!
The “people” need to remember that they benefit from the same programs in rural areas because there are no jobs. They always conveniently forget that part.
Please don't just share on this forum. Tell your reps in DC what you think. Resist. It only takes a few minutes and best of all..it doesn’t cost any money.
We don’t need money in politics. We just need people to participate.
It always kills me when people who say they love the US hate on public health care because it's not perfect in other places. If we're so great, don't they think we could do better? I do.
Given the fact we apparently have the best technology, it should be easier in the US. If we didn’t have an ancient Republic maybe we could Democratically resolve the problem.
We have Universal Healthcare in Ireland, and it's not a perfect system. Long waiting lists for (non-life saving) surgeries, but a trip to your local GP is only 60 euro, and, unless you go private, you never have to pay for your life saving surgeries should you ever need one, which is more important
how much more in taxes would we have to pay to get universal healthcare? i hear most of these countries pay over 60 percent of their paycheck in taxes for healthcare and whatever else is taxed. do you know
what i am trying to say is, if i make 1500 dollars every two weeks, universal health care would come in and take 60 percent of that every time i get paid. thats how it works in other countries. lets not forget the wait time to see a doctor.
You are forgetting some important things, namely that’s in overall tax so that you can also receive other government services such as transportation, food and housing aid, and so forth
And in the US you’re paying roughly 50% to not get seen because not only are the wait times also months long here
You may be denied during the process and have to begin filing all over again with a second opinion
lol
And then you have to know that your wait is not because doctors are saving other people, but because insurance is so caught up in red tape they have a separate industry for filing the paperwork
I’m not kidding btw there is a whole nother industry whose companies exist for the sole purpose of filing health care paperwork. Because the health insurance companies don’t even do that by themselves
They know how to do it but the insurance companies don't want it as they will lose some of their almighty dollars. Disgusting how the profit motive is ruining this country
That's not a concept. It's a justification for condoning atrocity on the basis of spurious patriotism. If your country is wrong then you should condemn that, not make slimy excuses for it.
America is down for the count, I get it. We are greedy, materialistic, cruel, ruled by billionaires who have no allegiance to the US only to their yachts and private jets, bigots, morons and thieves.
How many of these 32 countries had an already-existing, robust insurance industry that employs nearly 1 million people that spends millions on lobbying & has billions invested in a status quo? Even Obama said achieving what European countries have is impossible, short of wholesale economic collapse.
Wait, you think that you're proving that the US isn't the only first world country without healthcare for all? And then you think things like this don't happen in the US? At least she will learn to walk and enjoy life. https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=124631&page=1
Then what is your argument? Because I think we have pretty much proven and cleared up the fact that humans are fallible. It is also a fact that the US is the only first world country without healthcare for all.
You can tell a lot about a country by how it cares for its elderly, sick and poor. If a country can afford to do this but chooses not to, universally, can it be described as civilised? Discuss.
We don't have universal health care because the house and senate are:
1. Ignorant of what it is and/or how it works
2. They are having a menage a trois with the Pharmaceutical
and "health insurance" companies
3. Have labelled it the boogeyman man "socialized medicine"
4. All the above
Maybe America will become a civilized nation which cares about it's children more than it cares about billionaires and guns? Maybe in 4 years they will love their children as much as those of us in the civilized world??
I think it will take a revolution, or miracle for that to happen. A change of laws, and an investment based on trading the top 10% fairly would make it available in a blink of an eye. Still need a lot more health personnel though.
Alternatively if not keen on tax reform. Cut military spending.
Such a mystery! First step is to stop doing what insurance companies recommend! They aren’t our friends America! @housegop.bsky.social

Health insurance co’s are raking in billions in profits each year. With tax funded UHC those companies aren’t needed and that money would stay with the people. Having more cash and feeling safe knowing that a stubbed toe wont ruin them people will buy more stuff, thus paying more sales tax.
Insurance of any kind shouldn’t be for profit. If their only concern is shareholders then that just means higher premiums/deductibles and less coverage.
As powerful as machine learning is, it’s pathetic that the great minds that control its paths are more concerned about more profit for themselves and not using it to create universal healthcare for just start. Vanity and greed.
These are not developed countries but they have Universal care some of them with problems of corruption but you get attention Countries in whole Latin America
This billing cycle might I suggest requesting a paper bill. We really should do our part to bring back the USPS! I have been paying my healthcare bills with rocks after changing my billing address to local billionaire. Since it is public record on their taxes they get to write off their homes. #RTS
Only 7 percent control most of the wealth. Sounds like you need to stop working for the man and become the man? That's what I did... the American Dream is real. You just have to take the leap of faith. If you don't that's on you...
Laid out ages ago in the Powell Memo and championed by the Heritage Foundation and their minions—businesses have been pushing individuals out of the political discussion for a long time, and I think it might be too late to do anything about it.
Remind me - why do republicans hate the thought of people needlessly dying because they can’t afford health care? Is it because rich of the richest need a tax cut? Please stop putting republicans in office until maga is gone & buried & we remember what democracy means
I know it may not be right but I have faith in my God and I just watch what I eat and take care of myself. BUT I WILL NOT be popping pills in my system especially if it doesn't work or I'm allergic to the medicine. #imjustsaying #mybody #faithtrustbelieve 🙂☮️♥️✨✝️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
This is why I don't go to the Doctor unless it's really serious. I don't have healthcare because I'm not working the hours I used to work. Also I do traditional medicine (health food store) I try to eat healthy and take vitamins and I really don't get sick and I am 53 years old.
After all this time and the United States STILL robbed us blind with health care. 😄 Check out 60 minutes I believe 2 weeks ago was talking about health care. Anyway after they reported the story. I think social security paid off 3 families medical bills. REALLY?!?!😠🙏🏾😠🙏🏾
Universal healthcare must be as complicated as speed limits.
Speed limits work in about every nation, but are impossible on German highways. We simply do not have enough traffic signs, said our minister of transport!
Ours is called "medicare for all," but the rich are blocking us from having it. Drumpf says he's still looking for a viable replacement to the ACA, Bernie has one, I mentioned it above. "Who knew healthcare was so easy?" - *ME*
We are the richest third-world country. Our violent crime rates, prisoners per population, infant and maternal mortality rates, gun violence, violence against children, and health-care numbers don't lie.
It is interesting to read that. Because from the outside looking in that's what it looks like. There is obviously many great things in and from the US. But the inability to get politicians to look after their citizens is baffling. They did come together to ban tiktok I suppose, so there's that..
I'm inside looking in. And that's what it is. Propaganda be damned!
Coming together to ban the one thing they can't control seems like a really poor reason to come together.
How about gun control?
How about health-care?
How about human rights?
What really boggles my mind is how much more the U.S. government spends on healthcare (% of budget-wise) while providing relatively little in return. While "free" healthcare isn't really free, it's a hell of a lot more affordable and nobody goes bankrupt from it, or without.
It has helped millions of people in this country 65 and above that has worked hard all their lives. It is not free. We are now paying $185 a month for this health insurance and it only pays 80% of your doctor bills we are still left with bills. There is nothing free about Medicare.
no. no, you don't. it's not the same it's simply a restricted loophole in an abortion of an inefficient, ineffective overpriced inhumane system. the models are in all the other developed nations
Agree; the “hybrid” model should be a no-brainer. Unfortunately, too many people in one of our 🇺🇸 parties don’t believe health coverage should be mandatory. It’s such a dumb, irresponsible stance that my brain cells are dying typing this.
That system still pays the inflated healthcare system prices, it’s all still controlled for profit but the government foots the bill. Other nations have way more power and can keep those institutions in check (to a certain point)
Funniest part about that, an amount of your paycheck would be withheld for health, and people would claim they were stealing from them. And other insurance companies would come in, and most would rather pay them.
That might require dipping into that trillion dollar war chest budget. That will never happen. MIC owns you, they spew hate and cause division to keep wars going to stuff their pockets with taxpayer dollars.
I live in Canada. In BC 600,000 of us have no Dr and ER closures are a recurring news story. Taxes are high to pay for health care the biggest part of the budget. Giving junkies free needles and supplies is considered part of healthcare. Insulin is not.
But we have started to figure it out…the ACA’s Medicaid expansion laid the foundation for Medicaid for all. We just have to make our elected representatives expand it to everyone who wants it
Unfortunately Americans have been poisoned by a steady diet of propaganda that has convinced many that UHC, sensible gun laws, and livable wages are all part of a communist plot to destroy democracy. Democracies that have these prove otherwise.
For a conference, I once presented a lecture on the National healthcare cost comparison between the US and the other 31 Nations. The federal cost per head in the US is almost TWICE that of the next most expensive. Sure, taxes are higher, but there is no cost to you or your employer.
My Dad sat with a blocked gut for a week because they couldn't get him into surgery. He was scheduled everyday but everyday cancelled because of no doctor/staff. They waited so long he crashed and had to go to the ICU because he was septic. He almost died from the wait. I have many more stories.
If my Dad and cousin had of been in the USA my cousin would still be alive and my Dad would not have suffered so in his death. What I saw (and I'm a nurse in the USA) were crazy. The hospital for the province would not have received accreditation down here and it's the main hospital.
It's not always about money. There was no care to pay for where my Dad lived. The healthcare is subpar and the lack of availability and complex cases can lead to deaths.Your Dad didn't have to pay cash, but my dad paid with his life. I now won't retire there after what I saw.
Universal healthcare isn’t a solution for the US, it needs to be affordable insurance that actually pays claims.
In countries with national healthcare, it’s usually backlogged for appointments and has the same convoluted claims situation and people wait hours for emergency responders.
There are a multitude of different forms of universal health care around the world. Each has its pros and cons. Every single one of them is superior to the US system.
Where did you get the convoluted claims from? You hand over your number and that's it, no bills, no forms, all you need is a signature for declaration. You do need to be a resident with entitlement though not some know all blow in foreigner.
It’s not backlogged appointments in Australia or long waits for responders. There are no convoluted claims because there are no claims. You just provide your medicare card & don’t have to pay.
Universal healthcare is absolutely an option for the US. People are just brainwashed by greedy insurance corps and conservative politicians to scare them away from it.
What convoluted claims? It's turn up, tell receptionist of arrival or just the screen in some places, have tests/treatment and leave. Worst case is having to collect drugs from pharmacy.
How often has it happened that a parent has been jailed because they couldn't afford a doctor for their kid? Having experience with both healthcare systems, I've chosen to retire in the USA vs Canada because of Canada's healthcare. I don't want to die like my Dad or my cousin did in their system.
That's a very apt analysis and that reasoning also explains their insane lack of gun control. It seems hard to balance the rights of gun owners with keeping kids safe in schools, so let's do nothing. We shouldn't even try.
The real irony is that the ACA was originally written by the Heritage Foundation as the "free market" response to Hillarycare—which was mostly just ideas at the time.
3/ a detective, ultimately arrested my primary caregiver with a gun, knife, stolen property after she threatened my life. She was arrested in the commission of another crime, after I was forced to go to a bank and write checks, terrified. California is a shit storm of no laws.
2/ I was very sick, was using a walker, was told I had no chance of recovery, the social worker called them “Oaxaca gang” who would hurt me “if I didn’t behave. “ I could barely speak. I was so weak. Law enforcement found me in the woods covered in medical equipment after I made my escape. $60 later
10 yrs ago I was ordered into a care home: nearly $10K a month. I was neglected, abused, violated, starved, psychologically abused (called by a number for four months #320, nameless) nearly killed.
Actual gang members worked in the facility!
When I complained, I was patient kidnapped and hidden😫
Not bragging, but the bar is so low for Americans that they consider sub-par healthcare systems "universal". Wanna see true universal? Check the Brazilian one.
It may suffer from lack of funding and lobbying from the healthcare business, but it serves everyone for zero bucks.
i left america 20+ years ago. i hadnt looked at us healthcare for 10 years or so. when i set up healthcare for a small group of employees, i was shocked at what was acceptable to the employees
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the level of care in the USA. It's amazing and with truly dedicated and professional staff on the 'front lines'. It's the abhorrent, corrupt system that's the problem.
The US spends more per capita on health care than any country on Earth and we rank about 40th in life expectancy, and falling. “Level of care” is worthless if it excludes massive numbers of people.
I just looked up the US rank in life expectancy, which has plummeted to 48th, and we are projected to fall to 60th by 2050. There are about 200 countries, so we’re almost out of the top quartile. Why isn’t anyone screaming about this???
"Make it work" is quite an overstatement. How bad is our healthcare system is a recurring theme in Canada's politics since decades. If you have to wait months or even years for a surgery, can you really say that universal healthcare is working?
This is a bit of a red herring. Yes, some non life threatening procedures can take longer than they should. But if you need urgent care, you get high quality care, fast. Canada does have a problem with waiting times for some procedures, but that can and should be fixed with proper funding.
As an Englishman living in the USA, I chuckle at the irony of the revolutionary spirit.
I find it fun that the country has now elected, actually chosen, leadership that considers itself above all, sent by a god and with no accountability. The country has just taken a huge shit on the revolution.
For all of you who were glad at the killing of United Healthcare’s CEO, or at least thought it was okay, please look in the mirror. Have you been voting for candidates that support universal healthcare?
So strange. Could it be the same country that thinks all folks, no matter how mentally fragile, or no matter their level of previous violence against a domestic partner, need access to military grade firearms? What a coincidence.
Not only does the healthcare & pharmacy industry profit off your sickness in the current plan but this plan also keeps people stuck in bad jobs or relationships because they need the healthcare coverage it provides.
Entrepreneurship is stifled, starting a business is risky add to that trying to afford healthcare for potentially a family. Not having Universal healthcare is killing create and the “American Dream”
Canadian here. I mentioned it many times and have been called a “socialist” on way too many posts. There’s people DYING in the USA as they cannot afford their health care. This is UNACCEPTABLE!
Seems you are a commie or socialist whenever you support something that generally benefits everybody. It must mean that the anti socialist types are not interested in helping their fellow humans.
As a fellow Canadian I totally agree. I see it as crimes against humanity, letting people die when the basic medical treatment exists but persons finances can’t cover the cost. Anyone refusing medical treatment to any citizen is a plain old murderer, no way to gloss over letting someone die.
Here in Mexico we have a severely defunded healthcare system, still everyone I know who has needed surgeries, has had them. Even I, when I was unemployed and got bit by a dog, got the vaccines and stitches for free, just filling the paperwork and going to several clinics.

Most of the world population has some sort of Universal Health System, including the majority of the American countries.
