It's heart breaking to see good people and good efforts get scuttled by high school bullshit.
"Willing to take active and endless abuse" should not be a prerequisite for things like this.

Marcan steps away from Asahi (the Apple silicon Linux port). What a damn heartbreaking thing this is. Even if you think he’s abrasive, he was willing to do some important work that nobody else was willing to touch, and his technical knowledge was unparalleled.

I think this gets lost in public discourse on Rust and R4L. People are choosing Rust not just for memory safety, but for the confidence it gives to move quickly.
When I used to write C++ I would regularly lose days, even weeks to chasing a heap corruption bug.
