I have been trying to explain to a few very smart people in my extended family that we're all already paying for it in exorbitant billing and ever increasing premiums, not to mention the billions lost in GDP when people are too unhealthy to work, but they just blink at me.

🇨🇦here. My taxes have paid for my universal healthcare. And, the care I received in the past 10 years is excellent. I live outside a major city. There is a regional health system that joins several smaller hospitals in the county each providing a specialty such as eye care, ortho, chemo, etc.

Back in the day I recall explaining to those freaking out over the ACA that if they get healthcare through an employer the government gives that employer tax subsidies to pay for it. And that the ACA just provides the same subsidy directly to the insurer. People think employers ‘give’ them insurance

I like telling them that they pay more for their co-worker single mother sharing their employer sponsored plan via premiums and deductibles, than for several single mothers on Medicaid and their kids. Let them chew on that fact.
