I'll get the ball rolling on this. Will bring this up to the Higher Education Committee at the next meeting, & perhaps to UCU Congress too.

USS will argue that they have a duty to invest where there can get the best returns. They have done this when we previously told them to invest ethically.

That said, at the minimum, they should withdraw these companies from their Ethical Investment Plans, which should be doable.

For removing them from their general investment plans, UCU & the employers' body need to lobby together.

To lobby the employers' body, university councils would be a good place to start. Ours has a representative elected by staff, and they can be asked to bring it up at a council meeting.
