New research from @gosiami.bsky.social, @shellkryan.bsky.social & @a-fisher.bsky.social argues that one critical – but overlooked – factor that could explain the stalling progress towards gender equality is the social interactions & relationships between different genders ➡️ ow.ly/g90E50V41Ne

EVENT: Bridget Phillipson: an #IWD2025 conversation. Join us, @ipsosintheuk.bsky.social & @kingsbschool.bsky.social as Education Secretary & Minister for Women and Equalities @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social speaks to Julia Gillard & @kellyipsosuk.bsky.social ➡️ www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/bridget-ph...

"...there are some issues where actually we see a gap emerge, where younger men are actually far more hostile to gender equality in some regards than even older men – and certainly a huge chasm between young men and young women." @profrosiecamp.bsky.social speaks to BBC Radio 4's Start the Week

NEW: updated long-run gap in voting between young men and women in Germany: Gender divide continues to widen, but contrary to what is often assumed, young men continue to vote roughly in line with the overall population, while young women have swung sharply left. www.ft.com/content/29fd...

We're hiring! We are looking for a Research Assistant to support our work looking at gender quotas in parliaments. ➡️https://www.directtemping.com/jobs/show/16527/research-assistant

"A lot of the policies we have in terms of these inclusive policies are... actually for the population as a whole" Our Director @heejungchung.bsky.social at Campaign For Social Science's panel discussion today on how the UK can balance it's economic priorities against growing social inequalities

This is how the Terran empire began in fact.

Late to the party but Omg #Charlotte in #traitors.... I hope I never need to meet someone like that in real life!! Scary. But minah she played a stunning match...

Yesterday our Director @heejungchung.bsky.social shared her expertise with the Select Committee on Home-Based Working in the UK, contributing to a session with the Royal Society for Public Health. At GIWL, we see the employment landscape a key to gender equality inside & outside the workplace.

Elon Musk is stealing your tax dollars and putting them in his own pocket

Another sign of gender polarisation of voting behaviours among young men and women. This time Germany. 27% of young men 18-24 voted AFD while only 14% of young women have. The latter voted largely for left progressive parties. If you break this down to east men vs west women the gap will be larger.

I found the essay - it's well worth reading gandt.blogs.brynmawr.edu/files/2009/0...

This is why we need to make sure everyone especially those in tech and other stem should be obliged to take Sociology and other social sciences as a part of their degree.

#GermanElection Results show yet again it is the working class men in the East that supported #AFD the right wing populist party. In general (young) people are moving away from the main parties but women to the left men to the right. I need age×gender break down! www.zdf.de/nachrichten/...

Has anybody checked if our own UK Universities Superannuation Scheme holds shares in these tech companies?

In person tickts for our @giwlkings.bsky.social flagship event for #IWD International Women's Day with SofState Bridget Philipson is sold out but you can still join via online streaming! Kelly Beaver @ipsosgroup.bsky.social will present our annual IWD survey www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/bridget-ph...

"Cost savings can arise from both direct and indirect effects, such as improved employee work-life balance and reduced stress leading to reduced absenteeism and turnover" @heejungchung.bsky.social in People Management on family friendly work benefits ➡️ www.peoplemanagement.co.uk/article/1905...

New interview with @peoplemagazine.bsky.social @cipd.bsky.social on whether family-friendly benefits are worth it - quick answer... YES because the managing your workforce well is probably one of the most important thing in running your business & society www.peoplemanagement.co.uk/article/1905...

New paper with Shiyu Yuan covered by the telegraph on the racial disparities in WFH in the UK - using LFS data. There are some other coverages we had - I will post in the comments below! #NewPaper #BAME #WFH

The Washpost, which is bleeding millions of dollars and shrinking its staff, accepted -- and then rejected -- a $115,000 ad that criticized Elon Musk. Anyway, here's the ad that the Post's business side didn't want its readers to see ⤵️ thehill.com/media/514849...

Last weekend we were delighted to be at @fawcettsociety.bsky.social's Fawcett Conference, with our director @heejungchung.bsky.social taking part in a fascinating and timely panel discussion on tackling the rise of populism for a feminist future.

We are looking for your submissions to our ESPAnet 2025 stream: www.espanetmilano2025.it/en-US/stream... The more submissions, the more paper slots. And great team of convenors! @petroleuse-sbd.bsky.social P. Schober @cassandraengeman.bsky.social @heejungchung.bsky.social @hannahzagel.bsky.social

Joan Williams on why young men are turning right wing and towards populism- they have grievences and rather than punching up they are punching down. Really spot on. youtu.be/8CZg9naevV4?...

I am absolutely thrilled to be called in as an academic witness for this hearing @hlhomeworking.bsky.social - I will be speaking on the topic of #FlexibilityStigma #Remoteworking and how it impacts #Inequalities and #Societies committees.parliament.uk/committee/77...

NEW: Research by GIWL Director @heejungchung.bsky.social finds that while COVID-19 expanded remote work opportunities, racial disparities persist, raising concerns about equitable access to flexible work. ➡️ www.kcl.ac.uk/news/racial-...

Only 2 weeks until our webinar discussing how the UK can balance its economic priorities against large & growing inequalities across society. Hear from @bobbyduffy.bsky.social @heejungchung.bsky.social Prof Matthew Johnson, @pjtheeconomist.bsky.social & Prof Katherine Smith. https://buff.ly/3CnXKPc

when writing about the rise of British populism it’s worth bearing in mind that voters still prefer Starmer to Farage… ….and even prefer Ed Davey to Farage

NEW PAPER! Shiyu Yuan explores whether COVID-19 removed the inequalities in homeworking practices across gender/racial lines. Although most workers did benefit from the rise of WFH patterns, Black men and Chinese workers not so much. @giwlkings.bsky.social onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

We can now change that to so the person on the right is a young man and the person on the left is a young woman So many young men are taught to belive that women's rights and women gaining more is taking things away from them to distract them from the real reason behind their grievances

Okay. I'm sitting on a train and in front of me are two queer young women who are friends and listening to the way they talk, the support and love they have, etc... you realise why young women are not dating men. That level of care compassion and love is really going to be hard to compete with.

Very much looking foward to the @fawcettsociety.bsky.social conference. I'll be speaking at 10am on the issues of rise of populism, back lash against feminism and what it means for the future of feminist activism. You can hear it online by registering here www.fawcettsociety.org.uk/Event/for-a-...

Women are now 11.6% of Fortune 500 companies. But remember, these women are extraordinary: "many have had to survive in very masculine organizations where they must put in long hours and devote themselves entirely to work." @heejungchung.bsky.social www.forbes.com/sites/pklein...

"We need to completely shatter the idea that full-time work has to be 40+ hours. A 30-hour workweek would make it possible for more women to go into leadership" @heejungchung.bsky.social quoted in Forbes on outdated work norms keeping women out of leadership roles www.forbes.com/sites/pklein...
