I'm a Tufts Alumnus, and I endorse all the positive actions in the petition which would safeguard members of the Tufts community, Free Speech, and academic freedom.
But I don't endorse the section where it promises punitive actions against Tufts if it doesn't comply. (1
Personally, I am willing to see Tufts go all the way to the mat to protect Freedom of Speech, freedom of thought, and academic freedom - even to the point of Tufts's own extinction. (Because what's the point of Higher Education if there's no Free Speech or free thought.) (3
Rubio isn't trying to deport people because they tore up University campuses. (Probably 99% of the protesters didn't do that.) He's doing it because he doesn't like their opinions and is trying to squash Free Speech and freedom of thought.
I read the entire letter and I think the writers need to recognize that there is only so much Tufts can do. They have provided legal assistance but they have no way of intervening in an ICE arrest. Free on campus housing should be for all students if this is a demand.

When a University doesn't do everything in its power to protect the freedom of speech of its community, it is a failure as a University.
But I don't endorse the section where it promises punitive actions against Tufts if it doesn't comply. (1
I understand some current students have an axe to grind against the current Tufts President, but I graduated 40 years ago and I don't.
If they want Alumni to endorse it, they need to look at the bigger picture (2/
Tufts is a great community and a fine institution of higher learning.
We should positively encourage it to uphold its values.
I hope it fights like hell for Higher Education and for all of our Freedoms.
But extortion is not the way to do it.
Or we don’t.
We’ll know shortly.
It's Fascism.
All she did was co-author an Op-ed in the student newspaper that was written a year ago and that didn't even mention the Federal government. (1)
This was clearly an attack on Free Speech.
Do not defend it.
