Anyone else having a hard time just DOING stuff? Is it age? perimenopause? leftover burnout? the existential angst of living in the last dying gasps of a once shining ideal? or am I just not getting enough protein?

For me, it's currently about being stuck in suspended animation every time I look at the news, waiting for outcomes over the next weeks (budget, election), not even able to pick a feeling until they're done, for better or much worse.
Agreed. We tend to default to the BBC rolling news when there's nothing much on TV. By the time you've seen the same doom-and-gloom report four or five times it takes on monster proportions.
Go get a cheese stick! And some bread. And an apple. And a bit of chocolate. Eat what makes you happy and gives you a bit of energy. But, most important: eat!
Gods yes. I’m 54 and I’m TIRED! Like, I don’t know how people physically (and mentally) work for another 10 or—in our case now because it’s all shit—20+ more years. I left academia because it was killing me faster than I was dying. The world is a lot and we need to chill now.
It's insane. Capitalism is a friggin' pest and people shouldn't have to pay more than 30% of their household income on good, safe, housing in 2024... Money to live, enjoy, do cool stuff you like. Not work 50hrs to be too tired to spend any money you might have left over.. #rant
Ongoing pandemic and post Covid infection sequelae? After I got HRT for peri which I wanted to deal with the sleep disruption and lack of thermoregulation my concentration got a lot better so I really recommend trying that to see if it helps
I feel ya.
Same here except writing a nonfiction book while editing a novella and hoping to finish a novel, and all while editing and typesetting work for clients! EEP!
It's all about timing. You've got your sugar rush and your sugar crash. I like to time the rush when I have tons of shit to do but I'm not always accurate with the sweet sweet scheduling thingy.
My personal findings
1. See if you’re well rested and well fed, or if you had a decline in physical functioning but didn’t adjust to that yet
2. See if there’s too many things you could have done Now, deal with some of them or give some of them up
(1/2)
3. See if you’re still motivated to do the things, or are they just chores for you
4. Talk with yourself a little. Check with your morals and identities, and overall mental state. If you cannot deal with some issues due to consequences, at least acknowledge them and release some emotions
(2/2)
I had really bad decision overload when I was still in academia. All I did all day was make decisions, and now I feel myself cycling through not making them sometimes out of fear (maybe?) that I will go back to that headspace.
My field of f*cks is BARREN! It’s very freeing in some ways, though. I so don’t care what randos out in the world think. And you get to where you do not suffer fools *at all*!

39 and I'm just... Buckling on a very regular basis, or just stunned/paralyzed....
I just want to retire and read and walk and brew beer and eat nice fresh food.
