Consider mailing (certified, with return receipt) them a licensing invoice. They had a budget; this should have been in it.

Sometimes companies themselves don't even remember what is and isn't theirs. There's been instances where companies like Sega and Nintendo accidentally used fan-made assets in games and other media that were clearly sourced off the internet, clearly under the impression that it was theirs.

I'm sorry, that's shitty. It's messed up how much of a problem this still is. It's not hard to credit sources anywhere along the chain, yet hardly anyone ever does, and because they don't know or care what kind of work goes into stuff, the people actually doing a bunch of the work get tossed aside.

We had to go after a documentary a year or two ago for just lifting our footage straight up. I wouldn't be surprised if none of those people they DID credit gave permission or received any compensation. Larger budget game documentaries are for some reason a consistent problem.
