This is why I don't frame things as, "What did Harris-Walz do wrong?" They did attack the unpopular stuff like Project 2025 and Republican abortion policy. So I'm fine saying the fault lies more with voters than with Kamala Harris.

I actually had a fear just before the election that having abortion on the ballot would make some people think "I can protect abortion and still elect conservatives!" I was extremely disappointed to be correct.

I wouldn't begin to guess as to whether it was intentional, but the fact that many states made abortion rights a ballot issue effectively unburdened Republican candidates from being dragged by it, allowing voters to "have their cake" (protect abortion rights) "and eat shit too" (vote Republican).

They’re absolutely wrong of course. Republicans are the reason any of us have to vote and campaign to protect what should be obvious natural rights to our own bodies. But Democrats (including me) assumed that the contradiction would be obvious. It wasn’t!

Republicans discovered "pro-life" to be a position that allowed a diverse coalition of social conservatives to work together (especially including conservative Catholics). That has led to the current SCOTUS, which had no Protestant justices until Jackson was appointed.
