It also occurs to me that Germany didn’t have much of a history with democracy. And there were other factors for its fall. Our institutions are very damaged, but they have a long history and
culture behind them.
And yet Trump, who currently controls every lever of power such that no one will move to stop any of his illegal actions, has gone from convicted felon to being judged to be COMPLETELY immune for his actions by the MAGA SCOTUS
I mean right now there's very little I see happening unless we peel off some Republicans in the house, unlikely, and we're not even close in the Senate. Hell we can't even get all the Democratic senators to not vote for Trump's nominees!
Frustrating for sure. I want to give them — at least some — the benefit of the doubt bc there may be some meaningful strategy … but the last few days have been challenging w leadership.
More history: 1) Bus protests began in 1950, 5 years before Rosa Parks. The cases of those arrested lingered for years before the summer of 1955. 2) SCOTUS’ 1956 decision only applied to Montgomery. It would take 6 more years to finally end bus segregation throughout the rest of the south.
It was fascinating to go to the museum and learn of the details: deeply organized carpooling, a LOT of walking, and so much mutual support and sustenance for the long haul fight.
I've been trying to tell some friends going down the very cynical rabbit hole it took a long time to get to the Voting Rights act. The elders put in years of work. Took lots of time to get women able to have credit on their own. And the ADA isn't that old either. We've gotta do the work.
I actually think an Indivisible (or similar org) push to educate normie Dems about the work that went into the Civil Rights Movement--the time, the regular meetings, using public and political pressures, the disagreements--would be super helpful for us all to understand during the Trump years.

Nazis and Fascists take a long time to destroy.
Obviously, we didn't do a good enough job the first time.
culture behind them.
And we're less than a month in.
Guess history isn't helping much.
And the RiverBoat Brawl took minutes 😹
