Do we also build alternatives to all the USA-based SaaS apps that we use?
Do we continue to buy hardware from US-based companies?
Do we also stop using UK subsidiaries of US tech companies?

I agree we need to do it somehow, but it’s an absolutely gigantic undertaking.

SaaS is garbage. Mostly we need locally-employed sysadmins running open source software on local servers. Keep the hardware, the software, the data and the expertise local and small scale.

There’s lots of SaaS that does not have open source alternatives, or is not designed to support enterprise scale, and/or mission critical and/or high security services.
(I’ve got over a quarter of a century’s experience delivering complex IT programmes).

I don’t dispute the premise but we have so much eu tech that is just as shady. What risks happening is just more stuff like Yoti or the uk edtech market that is built terribly, fast and without privacy or security by design. Like why does my uk bank app share data with Facebook?

your bank shares data with facebook because facebook's business model is based on it. it doesn't have to be that way, but we have stupidly let it happen.
