Because companies do this a lot:
"We intend to do better"
Ok, but that's also saying: "We know what we're doing is completely immoral but it's cheaper to get rid of it slowly now than just stop using it and making fixing it our priority"
They got hit with allegations in January last year. The chocolate business is a mess and even the US Army gave up trying to clean the supply chain for emergency ration kits.
The corporation set 2025 as a goal. I try to buy union.
"Where Am I Wearing?" by Kelsey Timmerman is an interesting read.
I do. I'm a survivor of trafficking. It's tough - I was at a conference when my new cell phone went off and it took three of us to shut it off. Everyone in the auditorium knew that my cell, like everyone else's, had metal mined by children in it. There were no child labor-free mobiles available in
the US. We can only do what we can do.
At one point, Ford had a clean supply chain. IDK what happened. We know that any supply chain initiatives will be on the chopping block as soon as DEI is dead and buried.

If it were any other company I'd say: good for you. Lindt is a terrible company, though, that makes inferior products and is most certainly not "Swiss chocolate". They're the Nestlé of the chocolate world.
This is a bit confusing. They are cutting the US out as a supplier, which means that the US was sending to Switzerland because the US was a supplier.
I don't think that's what they mean.
Ok, got it. Good for Canada. I hate being so anti-America right now but it's really just hoping that maga will start to feel the pain they imposed on all of us. Maybe they'll join us when the crap hits the fan.
👏 👏 👏 👏
The US thug regime needs to be boycotted, sanctioned, and isolated. I only shop for food at Costco and Winco in liberal cities. It's a global effort against the F-Elon thug regime.
Same with me when in the US. Winco is a great place to shop - good/great prices, very nice stores, 24/7, good quality own-brand products, produce, bulk. Love it! The fact it is employee owned makes it even better!
🔥🚨 Bozone, YOU’RE DAMN 💥 Trump and his corrupt regime are fueling chaos and destruction.

Tourism to the US is on the decline and will accelerate. US travelers worldwide are going to be increasingly persona non grata as Trump's ridiculous "Reciprocal Tariffs" are launched against every Country (except perhaps Russia and North Korea). US people used to be welcomed. 😢
I think OP was merely signaling that Canadians will now be able to buy them directly from the maker and not from the US suppliers. As we are boycotting goods from the US that helps
Lindt is doing it to sidestep
the tariff wars. No one is having their choccies taken away. I’ve never seen such a lack of reading comprehension as there was on that thread. Ugh.
You can have ALL the Lindt chocolates. They make the most disgustingly over-sweet shite that has ever come out of Switzerland (which of course makes it ideally suited for the North American market, where people think Hersheys is good chocolate!) 🤢
It would be incredibly funny if the rest of the world just boycotted the US and stopped selling to US purchasers so when Donald targets their countries with random tariffs they can just laugh and ignore him like we’re learning to 🇨🇦
Ya know, once they establish alternative sources, they will have no reason to return to sourcing from the US. The orange buffoon shot us all in the foot.
Here’s hoping Trump doesn’t start his own brand of Merica made MAGA chocolate. I’m only half joking. Think about the crap these cheap a$$ oligarchs will force on us when the world cuts us off from everything.
I lived in n the US in 1987-8 and struggled to believe the low-quality beer, bread, chocolate and milk that people put up with. All the basic stuff was done so badly.
See also town centres, tv, sensible conversations and cheese.
Quantity over quality should be the national catchphrase.
I am Dutch. When visiting the East Side of New York in 1986, someone offered me a piece of the cheese the poor had received for free. I cannot find words to describe it!
If you oppose tariffs, tell your reps in DC to remove tariffs. It only takes few minutes and it doesn't cost any money. We don't need money in politics. We just need people participate. https://www.nationalfinancialplan.com
No.
"The world" is exercising basic freedoms of speech and choice upon amurriKKKaka.
"Cancel culture" is a Rapeublicunt Nazi shitphrase and not funny even if you intended it as "snark."
Damn. I eat one square of Lindt 78% Dark Chocolate after dinner every night as my little dessert treat. Y’all really wanna take that away from a perimenopausal, dieting woman? New level of hormonal rage is about to unlock.
Read it again. They're not changing the US factories.
The US factories just won't be involved for Canada.
Canadians get it from Europe, you still get yours from your own country.
You're still good for chocolate :)
I doubt they'll stop delivering chocolate to the US.
My guess is that they'll just not move chocolate going to Canada through the US anymore, and increase the price of the chocolate in the US by 25+% (or however much the tariff is.)
Don't worry, you can continue eating them :)
Because of the trade war Trump started, Canada will now get its Lindt chocolate from Europe instead of the US. The US factories will no longer produce for the Canadian market, so some may shut down, cutting US jobs. But your chocolate supply will be fine~
They will still be available in the US, they are just shifting the Canadian business to come from Europe instead of from America. Shipping is more expensive, but still less expensive than the tariffs.
The story is just a little different.
‘Lindt is one of the first to announce a production shift away from the US to avoid retaliatory tariffs from Canada – sending its shares up 7%.’
A little different? More like completely different. Looks like Lindt has 5 factories in the US. To avoid tarriffs, Canada will plan on using Lindts' EU factories to buy Lindt chocolates from.
My assumption here, based on the wording and the flags at the end- is that the meme originated to be shared to Canadians and is the truth in our context.
We are boycotting US goods and US made goods and they want to distinguish themselves.
Fact check, yes, but also don’t assume it’s about you.
Most people in Norway boycots US where they can now. Also many companies have stated trhat they wont allow American Warships to tank any fuel at all due to them cooperating with Russia, Thats the official stance here now. Thats a bit worrying actually.
That’s a big hit to a major NH site (Stratham). I’m sure ayotte, the new full maga governor, will kneel and ask her orange daddy for more harm to visit her state.
Didn't they just find that there was a bunch of lead in their chocolate?
"Lindt & Sprüngli, a Swiss chocolate company, has been involved in a class-action lawsuit over elevated levels of lead and cadmium in its dark chocolate".
Not chocolate! 😱 If this doesn't get people out of MAGA, especially those who have been personally victimized by their own menstrual cycle, I don't know what will.. but good for Lindt. And Canada 🍁 This looks like a sound business decision. 👏👍
I recently heard politicians called a “lagging indicator”. That means we must keep up the pressure and force them. I expect them to fight against fascism and have been so disappointed. Hearing someone who understands politics term them that way made me certain we must push them hard & not give up
People have been doing that with British Cadbury since the US recipe changed due to Hershey being a giant, steaming pile that didn't want competition and Mondelez (Kraft, basically) was tired of endless litigation. American Cadbury SUCKS but they nixed so many Brit 🍫 imports. 👎
Look for chocolate made by Kinnerton. They make fabulous stuff and it's made in Norfolk, England. They also do a lot of the non dairy chocolate, not to forget Bailey's chocolates and Magnum chocolates.
They also have the best factory shop for us locals.... sorry.
Good news for Canadian Lindt fans, send us a shopping list Joe G and we'll bring it across the border instead of the non-existent fentanyl and migrants.
We’re already paying. I purchase Lindt chocolate all the time. About 2 weeks ago the price on their dark chocolates jumped 32%. Now I know why. And if it supports Canada, I’ll continue to buy it.
Thanks for reminding me that the US was crazy before trump: "expertly crafted with the finest ingredients" as a slogan was enough to sue the company for having higher levels than deemed recommended. Nobody will miss the US. Grifters per design.
No, Lindt didn't decide because of this.
Good! Let people understand what they're foolish vote for Felon 47 means! We need more companies to do this! It cannot be "as usual" as though what is happening is just fine. It's not fine!
Now, what might lower US GDP and stocks, is for airlines outside of USA to reduce their purchases of US made aircraft like Boeing.
(->AIRBUS or EMBRAER or others might be a thing to look at)
And military aircraft...
Why over priced F35's from US, when several great options from Europe?
And it's only the beginning...! Soon all European products will be out of the shelves as well...!
It's going to be great having all Americans eating only their own shit to please a demented NAZI and his criminal gang...!
👍
Technically, the Lindt factory in the US made the Canadian supply because the cost of transportation would be less. Moving the production of the Canadian supply to Europe would be cheaper than the tariffs. US supply is unaffected. US jobs however are impacted due to the factory production is less.
Oh, found it. Okay. But is it going to go up in price? I'm barely getting by as it is. Lindt was my extra. If it hikes in price, it can't be my extra anymore. That will be so sad.
Threatening the tariffs and kicking them out while continuing to dangle them has basically the same effect as just enacting them. Vendors will reject the uncertainty and restructure their supply chains to get around our bullshit.
This. As with so many other things he does, Trump doesn't grasp how things work. If you keep imposing, un-imposing, and dangling tariffs (or anything else), you are untrustworthy to do business with and ppl won't do business w/you regardless. He thinks ppl flip on & off like his tariffs.
The tariffs are a ploy, he’s planning a Bush-Iraq (weapons of mass destruction)game. The difference is fentanyl, he needs Congress to ok an invasion and by claiming they haven’t followed through on the deal gives Congress a reason. A fake one of course but that is what’s happening.
Yes, even they’re pretty good. When I was 12, we moved for a year from Edmonton to Oregon. We got a long weekend to pop up to B.C. & I spent all my babysitting money on Canadian chocolate (which I then sold with no profit to classmates in Oregon. They thought it scrumptious!). 🍫
But being UK decent I vote original Cadburys before they sold out!! But still love British chocolate guess our Easter baskets will be just grass and 🍑 🤢
Cadbury, now owned by Mondelez, responsible for deforestation, slave labour and child labour. Nothing is sacred any more...and my late father worked for Cadbury for many years. It's no longer the company which built a village for its workers.

He seems to think the reason the US has trade defecits is cos other countries (esp in the EU) are being mean to Americans.
And not just cos the US has lower standards, and anything American we want to buy tends to be made here.
America doesn't make that much we want to buy
Because companies do this a lot:
"We intend to do better"

From Texas.
Look at the packaging to confirm this. Some seasonal items or special items come from their Europe factories in Switzerland, Germany and France
But I'm glad the did that!
