Musk has no technical skills whatsoever, but he wants to appear smart. So he takes bits of information like this, told to him by junior engineers, and regurgitates it to appear smart.

Musk did this with the Twitter stack and Twitter's senior architects called him out publicly, then he fired them.

All day I have been angry because I knew they had no idea what they were talking about. I've been coding reporting for databases for 20 years now. That thread was cathartic, I thought I was the only one who saw this and was beginning to think I was crazy.

I'm currently in the middle of a massive fucking boondoggle of a project because a company came in thinking they could "streamline" the data/flows in our bureaucracy. I can guarantee folks that it is not as inefficient as libertarians claim. It's just complex to serve millions.

I was amused to hear that after his zip company got acquired they basically had to throw away all the code as he was a coder who just dumped everything into one file/function. That and the code printouts (A thing people used to do, in long long agos) makes me thing he is stuck in the self taught 90s

Unfortunately, I have domain knowledge that overlaps things Musk is involved with. Basically, not batteries, not underground Boring company stuff, but much of the rest, and it's incomprehensibly painful to listen to him opine on any subject. It's all PTSD for the worst people I've worked for.
