The GOP argues against the ACA because the left loves it. The left argues for it because it’s all we got and makes bad insurance accessible to all. The actual marketplace? Silent on either side of the issue. That’s weird to me.

I’ll say this, IF the ACA gets shut down, it really does kind of destroy the argument that anything that lasts a decade is set in stone legal wise. It will opens the flood gates when the dems regain power in the next few cycles.

Now that there's no real requirement for everyone to have insurance, I get the impression the insurance industry doesn't really give AF if the ACA stays or goes. If it goes, they can get rid of pre-existing condition people. If it stays, they get gov't-subsidized customers. tl;dr: *shrug*

The national one was repealed in 2017. I think six states still have them, but not all of those states have a financial penalty attached.

Here’s the reason they want to kill the ACA: As part of the Affordable Care Act, which was enacted 10 years ago, the wealthy were hit with a 3.8% tax on net investment income – including interest, dividends and capital gains – and a 0.9% Medicare tax on wages.
