A lot to learn here. Every indie maker is chasing the hot new thing and leaves old projects in the dust.

If a project doesn't look maintained (ex. recent blog post, changelog, etc.) I won't use an indie tool by default.

Yeah I had a similar experience with some abandoned project that removed all their billing controls. Definitely hurts trust in indie makers overal.

I did not want to raise a chargeback right away because I know it hurts their Stripe standing. So I contacted each of them directly.

"A" – i bought a listing on his directory in Sep 2024. $100+ in my currency. He is apparently having “personal problems” so my listing never got reviewed or listed. He wrote some long sob story on X .

"B" – Supported some project of his for $30 SGD. Never materialised. Small amount but i can’t trust him anymore. Promised a refund on 18 Dec 2024, forgot all about it, and promised again on 5 Feb 2025. I haven't seen the money. 🥲

"C" – i backed his early project for $20+ (lifetime, supposedly); it closed down and that’s fine. But a year later i got charged $113 SGD for it.

“Hey! I'm chasing this down. i used Ghost to manage the project. But they closed my account cos I didn't pay the sub fee, so I'm messaging the team to reactivate so I can track down how my subs are still being charged. Ghost is looking into it.” — 23 Jan 2025.

If "C" is a recurring charge and it's taken by card, one option is cancel the card. Your card company will give you a new one and future payments can't be taken with the old one. A bit drastic but maybe a last resort.
