I know!!! I have an old shoulder injury from my military days which causes all kinds of neck & back issues. I wake up like that about 3-4 times a year on average, and it usually lasts several days. 😖
Heating pad or hot shower, rest, and any relaxing activity that doesn't involve movement. Odds are it's a muscle spasm, and the more stressed you are, the longer it'll take to relax the muscle. Unfortunately, the pain causes stress, which worsens the pain... feedback loop. 🫤
Hard relate. Rest up and feel better soon! I recommend PT and med checkup. Few years back I woke up with bad pain, few weeks later turned out I had a slipped cervical disc. Still comes back occasionally, nerve pain tingles from neck along arm and elbow to fingers. Getting old really sucks 😂
Suggest you have it looked at if it doesn't resolve shortly. I have a chronic issue from this sort of thing and it can lead to debilitating migraines and other unwanted complications. Old sucks.
Yeah, I might have to see a PT if this keeps happening! Never had this problem before & now multiple times in the last couple months. Got a couple migraines from it too
There's a condition called cervogenic headache or CGH that results from pinched or inflamed cervical nerves. Essentially your neck gets mad at you and makes your head hurt. There are conservative therapies for it but if it goes on it can be a bitch to get over without meds or other major procedures.
Happened to me, so awful, saw several physios and chiro and GP (partially fixed!) and finally only got it properly fixed about 22 months in with the best physio I was seeing for a shoulder dislocation. I hope yours is a quick fix!
yes! I had a locked facet joint. After 6 months my GP got the joint aligned again but the muscles would not relax. Physio fixed it doing things at my shoulder blades. Magic woman. I had a few days pain free in the middle after the shoulder dislocation - I think from the meds.
It was really not good. 0/10 do not recommend. I tried so many different physios, and even chiro which I do not believe in and made it worse. And 2 osteopaths. It was awful. A good memory foam pillow has helped keep it stable.
Not a brand, but size and firmness are important. 36" to run from your neck down your spine to your coccyx. Mine has no brand - it came from the physical therapist at my gym. Hope that was helpful.

The trick is to age gracefully.
Entropy with ease. 😉
Can be other things too, so if it keeps happening, best to get a medical opinion.
Took three days before I could walk.
Good times!
Sympathies
I hate when this happens, I'm not old, I just have bad medical issues with my spine & neck.
To get technical Dr
You are officially old when you have icy hot on hand for such a matter 🤕😜
