In other words, we want Europe to pay for its own defense as long as it pays us. This US administration simply doesn’t see the connections between issues. And that is because their leader is ill equipped to understand them.

There is already an existing defensive agreement (NATO).

What good would another one do? - especially since the reason EU does not want to buy US arms is the unreliability of US.

This looks very Brexity: there the UK was angling for a new deal while showing its unreliability.

Otherwise, maybe yes, but also somewhat unlikely looking at Trumps rhetoric and attempts to grab Greenland.
