Absolutely in black and white. I’m trying to hazard a guess at where that is, with that kind of rock formation at water’s edge… Hills are too low for Faroe Islands; too high for the Outer Hebrides; too steep for north shore of Lake Superior…

Parks Canada has some awesome tear drop shaped pod cabins on stilts there. Basically at the top of the cliff, buffeted by the winds coming off the gulf, overlooking the water. Pretty cool.

I too think it's preferable in B&W. The color version only has a few little splashes of color, making it more about tonality, which is where B&W shines. Nicely done!

One of my struggles is how much to pull out what’s in the shadows in post (HDR-style), instead of just leaving it as-is like we had to when shooting transparency film. Then I remember that Nat Geo photographer I saw using a graduated ND filter on a Gatlinburg sunset.

Yeah, I hear you. Reminds me of Galen Rowell who was very gung ho about representing the natural world as is but also sold a set of ND filters.
Big difference between what we see and what the camera sees. Trying to reconcile the two is the hard part. Easy to go overboard.

I think the only way to render the "whoa, look at those crazy rocks!!" emotion you feel when you are there is to crank up the drama until it matches the in-person experience

Thanks! They are both lovely, but I think I agree with the consensus that the bw one is more striking. Sometimes color distracts from texture and this has a lot of texture.
