This may be a dumb question, but why *are* eggs so expensive in the US right now? I follow a vegan diet so I don't normally buy eggs, but I looked up some prices just now and they're way cheaper in Canada, even before accounting for the exchange rate. - ThreadSky

US farms are too big and disease spreads rapidly. Canadian supply management allows us to keep smaller farms.

I read this the other day. One reason is supply management and another is Canada has mostly smaller egg farms while the US has mega farms. When a mega farm gets bird flu millions of chickens need to be culled. In Canada when a farm gets infected its thousands of chickens.
