Well, I have been advised, best to jump off the ferry at about 4am at Ojika. That is because the only ferry that goes publicly to Nozaki departs Ojika each day - so I will be weary for a day of trekking on Nozaki, but it seems the best way when coming from Fukuoka. https://ojikajima.jp/travel/experience/632.html

I've booked with them now... I will arrive on the Taiko ferry from Fukuoka at approx. 6am, and then do the trek to the Oeishi Shinto shrine on the abandoned island of Nozaki. Nozaki was both a quarantine island, and also a sacred place that the Hidden Christians settled. Looking forward to it!

Here is a map from a US 1943 survey (pub domain) from the NLA. Bib Id 7248195. It shows quite nicely the island (Kojima) although they got the name of the shrine wrong! I understand it will be at least a 2 hour trek from where the boat drops us off to getting to the shrine.

Maybe not too relevant to kakurekirishitan research, but I love the Fukuoka City Museum. Check what their current exhibitions are. Also, maybe a stretch but Kagoshima has some places associated with kakure Shinshu, as Shinshu was banned in Shimazu domains in much the same manner.

Actually I think I will include this... as the northern groups from Nozaki and northern Nakadori were transported to Hirado in the 1870s I understand.
