making this in the toaster oven, with the buttered rolls and the american cheese, my house suddenly smelled like my grandmother's house. all it needs is strong terrible percolator coffee and it would be a total time warp
okay i'm gonna buy like a crate of this stuff, i don't think we'll eat it frequently but it will be great in extended power outages which do happen here. just stick it in the barn as a gift to future me
Loved it as a kid. We used to fry it nice and crisp and put it in breakfast burritos with green chile, egg, cheese and potato. These days I like to fry it, drizzle some teriyaki sauce and Korean pepper flake, have it over white rice with nori and pickles. I’m enjoying the comeback it seems to have.
When I was in middle school my friends and I were obsessed with spam because of the Monty python sketch and my buddy brought in what I can best describe as a “Spam Pate” and it was basically cat food
Both my parents' parents were Kansas farmers who lived through the depression and when the postwar manufacturing and transportation boom brought pallets of processed food to their towns they did not look back on subsistence farming with a grain of nostalgia
U gotta cook it, “raw” spam is disgusting but as soon as it gets color/grill marks it’s 8/10 (maybe a little salty still, and like people are saying a marinade can turn it to a true delicacy)
Hard to see from the side, good on u!The crispier the better imo, like in this pic, and something about marks from a charcoal grill (and grilled pineapple as well) ties the whole thing together even better!
If you get the reduced sodium kind, it gives it a lil less intense of a flavor (and is prob healthier)! I like to use some to dice up and use in a sort of stir-fry configuration over rice when I cannot be bothered to cook anything elaborate. Spam is a lifesaver.
I like it marinaded in a sweeter marinade with soy sauce and then grilled on a hot skillet until you get a thin crispy crust on the outside, then put it on rice, in noodles whatever
the cheese is melted over it! honestly if i could physically have cut it thinner i would have, i just don't like thick chunks of meat very much. i like meat flavor but not texture
