She doesn't have the authority to remove him. In theory, she can enact some old rule that would involve her convening a hearing in which she would be judge, jury, and prosecutor. Since no actual rules or guidelines exist, those would have to be created first. Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC explains it.

Gov Hochul doesn’t have the power to remove him. She has the power to initiate a complicated & untested legal process where she’d hold hearings and Adams would have the right to appeal. It could drag on for years.

He can't. And even if the IG is shut out of meetings, THAT is something they can report publicly. This reduces Adam's ability to commit further crimes (though doesn't remove the ability).

Given she can't fire Adams, Houchin is at least doing something to deal with the criminal.

Don't make your decision based on the false claim that she is choosing not to fire Adams. She can't fire Adams, so she is doing the best that the law allows her to do.

The thing is to not vote for people who break the law and vote for ones that uphold it. Ignoring that basis caused the problem.

Be realistic, Gov. Hochul doesn't have a mechanism to remove Adams. The untested "power" to remove him requires her to act as judge, prosecutor, and jury under processes that have never been formally documented. Easy to appeal on Constitutional grounds to avoid for a decade. Her IG can do something.
