My mom lived in Stratford, Connecticut for a while—a town that was once built around tourist revenue from a Shakespeare theater and then fell into depression after the theater closed. Everything is desiccated and Shakespeare-themed. A shuttered storefront painted with “As You Like It Pizza.”
