There needs to be a full academic boycott of Columbia. It's an institution not worth saving. No one should speak there, go there, or collaborate with academics there. Let it crumble into irrelevance.

So what about the people stuck there who aren’t remotely responsible for this? It’s the admin that’s responsible and what you’re proposing would punish students and researchers the hardest.
Boycotts are Unfortunate for employees of these companies for sure, just like Target and Tesla employees are not in control of company policy, but the blame for harming these employees goes right back on the institution for abhorrent policies, not the people boycotting them
I don’t think you can equate students and researchers, working for their betterment (and in the latter case, for the world) at a university, with employees of an immoral profit-making corporation.
The students are the victims, this is the fact, Universities are corporations in non profit clothing, they should be ashamed for not supporting and standing up for students and all
Students there are clearly now at risk, resources should be directed to rescue students from their greedy uni-overlords
I can agree as some researchers have made honest DEI efforts, but many have been complicit in the performance of DEI while continuing to uphold cis white male normative culture in practice, “Will you be there for us when the inevitable backlash comes?” This Test is largely not passed by academics

The whole fucking point of having insane endowments is to keep the university at a distance from exactly this kind of political bullshit. Once that caves in, what on earth is the point of any of these overpriced institutions?
I wonder why they didn’t fight back and sue that he cut their funding? I doubt if it was legal for him to cut their funding. Nothing he’s doing is legal.
Besides the fact that they’re cowards and valued money over their students and academic integrity, they also said they considered legal challenges but thought it would be a difficult fight because the gov’t has many mechanisms to pull funding.
What gets me is that they never even tried to fight.
It’s also pathetic because agreeing to the demands wouldn’t even guarantee that they’ll get their funds back and Trump could ask for more before he even does that.
What a shame. It once and properly lauded J school.
It's really nothing new. The sea of mediocrity that is my own my mother for my undergraduate, University of Missouri is like most state universities, corporate captured on our department level three .
One of the finest agriculture departments in history completely co-opted by the toxic from input to product industrial agribusiness complex. Even Iowa State. That's the scary part about this "state rights" totalitarian nut jobs. The states are worse at governing than the feds!
They're not a victim, the people running Columbia are openly collaborating, they continue to let an associate professor who called ICE on students there keep his position
At some point in the timeline from democracy to dictatorship the judiciary has a “use by date”.
The SCOTUS team are on shot clock. Their functional use is nearly over for Team Orange.
I’d catch a plane before I was put on one, if I was linked to SCOTUS.
He's actually still opposing this regime with his first allowed message from inside, unlike Columbia's administration which has basically rolled over without nearly the level of threat he faces against a system like this. They should have that much bravery.
Putting aside the dreadful logic, and dreadful analogy. Obviously they are not imprisoned. When faced with the choice collaborate with fascism or stand up for democracy, the Constitution and the rule of law, they chose to collaborate. Short term expediency vs long term standing
Disgusting to use Mahmoud Khalil's name like this. Please give your head a shake if you are comparing a powerless individual with the leadership of an institution that has money & influence.
True that they would still look like a good organization if this challenge had not come along, it’s what you do in the bad times that counts the most my friend
A victim who spent decades cultivating an activist culture to attract tuition dollars and with perhaps one of the most enormous financial capacities of any university to stand up for their stated values and fight these actions in court, it’s bizarre that people think Columbia is the victim here
Bold words but sadly people won't even stay away from fast food places that directly contribute to lobbying and organizations that carry out direct harm to minorities.
Seriously? No one worthwhile teaches there, and no students deserve an education who attend? None? Full boycott? Sounds like a Trump temper tantrum to me.
Columbia won’t be giving its professors any support to keep working with the federal grant dollars drying up, they will just replace every prof with an adjunct making less than minimum wage
I have a lot of wonderful family members who went there. Lets be a bit mindful before just throwing stones. We are all so quick to cancel things. Its a mess- lets try and fix it
Agree but there’s another story here. If they’re getting $400 million in government subsidies, which is an insane amount of money for a university of that caliber, why on earth is their tuition so damn high? What is their profit margin? Same question for any university receiving that kind of money.
That’s a bit easier said than done for kids who are pursuing their degrees already. Or the labs doing valuable research. They weren’t consulted on this.
Things are going to get worse. You got the business freak Trump in executive and you got southern Louisiana Bible belt religion that's been making fun of LGBTQ for years running the south.
Want to know America's future... every states subsidies to companies are going to SOAR
But that is exactly what we need because it will be proof that the people are more important than the kings.. and come next election time they'll have run so many people through the dirt that AoC and Bernie will be taking over.
People complaining about this: consider that even just within my field and having nothing to do with politics, *everything* I hear out of that place manages to be somehow deeply insane or abusive. It’s uncanny
So sad that a friend’s kid is there because he has spent his life enthralled with their history of activism. What a betrayal to all those who came before.
Agreed. Fuck Columbia. They revoked degrees of ppl who’d worked their asses off and paid many thousands, for the ‘crime’ of exercising their rights to protest genocide.
Histrionics like this are really just victim blaming. Would Harvard or Penn have done any different? Which university is worth saving then?Columbia can’t afford to resist federal government coercion. All of this is Trump and his cult’s fault, not Columbia’s.

It’s really enraging.
Fuck Columbia let Zionists fund them
I can verify everything❤️🩹
All I’m asking for is a share
It cost 💲 nothing to support

Columbia is clearly a victim of it.
Like Petain was a victim

They're being threatened with obliteration. They wouldn't be doing anything like this, absent this threat.
Do you also think Khalil is "collaborating" because he is imprisoned? Of course not.
We the people have the knowledge education can occur anywhere we need to remember this as a country!
they're thinly disguised hedge funds
Want to know America's future... every states subsidies to companies are going to SOAR
I work there as a researcher and can't just upend my life because the weather changes.
Columbia fired professors.
Blacklisted students.
Why? Bc Zionists.
Let Zionists fund them.
