The reason they do this is because Habeus has to be filed in the federal district court where the person is physically located. In this case, it would be the western district of Louisiana which is in the Fifth Circuit. They're loaded with far right judges that would sign off on the blackbagging.

Not only that, the person would have to get an attorney licensed in Louisiana and admitted to the WDLA to file Habeus. That means most civil rights groups can't immediately assist because they're not admitted there.

The issue is that an attorney did file Habeus last night in Boston. However, if Rumeysa was already in transit, jurisdiction would be unclear. Ultimately, the court in Boston has to spend the next few weeks determining jurisdiction instead of the actual damn merits of the case.
