I'm so sick of takes like "oh, it's always been like this if you were paying attention." No, it hasn't and you're lying if you say that it has. You're normalizing the brutality.

I have to assume there were people during the peak of the Nazi killing spree in Europe still saying “oh, this isn’t REALLY any different from how the German government behaved BEFORE the Nazis - which you’d understand if you were *paying attention*”
I have to believe this so I don’t go insane

Antiwar advocates have been screaming about this for the entire GWoT.
Now it’s our turn to persecute and oppress our oppressors. It’s the way of the world darling. The side that persecutes shortly becomes the persecuted.
Sending non criminals to *work camps* in a 3rd nation is a big step from deporting someone on flimsy grounds.

But obviously it's far more extreme/violent now. And openly so.
Don’t find much original content in other languages until the larger rise of fascism in the 20’s and 30’s and it gets internationalized.
But the difference in scale and openness with which this is all being carried out is such that making that observation has to be followed by "so fight hard!"
No, people, it's never been this bad.
