For people outside Germany, I think it was like, "well, what do you expect from Huns." Germany/Prussia attacked other nations often. Inside the country, one of the attractions to Nazism was that they governed differently. Humans crave novelty. In the US, we have appalling similarities to this.

I think it's important to contextualize MAGA as a movement with fascist DNA stretching back to Nixon and Reagan (at least; I'm not an expert at all.)
