Was an army guy, can tell you that every parade/pass and review sucks ass. It's miserable. It's hot. You're sweaty. It's raining. Like 15 people have already passed out. Throw in who trump is as a person, the length of the route, and that everyone else had a three day weekend, this is what you get.

Close. It was mellophones lmao. And the rest of my section were trumpet players in wind ensemble. And since I'm normally an oboe player (though I had been playing mellophone longer than any of them) they had "seniority". So I ended up just being a figurehead with no real power lmao

Oh definitely. Military brat. These troops lost 3 day weekend to parade in rain in front of like 200 ppl on ARMY'S 250TH BDAY. There's a symbolism to route (usually it's the other way), they're getting demonized for LA, many want to cons. object & don't know how to safely. These ppl apathetic, mad.

Apparently it might be down to this, which made my marching band drum major geek self feel a lot better, because when I taught hs freshman to march it wasn’t this bad (also that is NOT marching music, because no real drums, so it was doomed even if they’d been semi-enthusiastic).

But in a way that doesn’t fuck up their lives irrevocably, which is incredibly fair! Being able to blame the weird ass marching music feels rather like a blessing in that context, bc there is a reason for the rhythmic drum-ness of anyone who marches! (Perhaps for the best to not have military bands)
