We also tend to not buy US cars because a 5.7 litre V8 car the size of a WWII tank has no place in a European city and gas is €€€.
It's entirely transactional and quid-pro-quo. Others offer respect, and they (might) get respect in return.
It does allow for diversity of products in the US, and attempts to guarantee a market for our products and services, but it subjugates trading partners to achieve this. It is equivalent to obeisance.
It's not the only reason I won't live in the US again, nor the biggest reason I won't live in the US again, but it's on the list.

In the US, it feels like the reverse is true - you assume that it is safe until irrefutable evidence that it is not.
