2/ with any comments about what’s happening at SSA that can make people scared or stressed. But I there’s no cushioning this at this point. Both on the retirement and disability side we’re looking at a radical diminution of service, help.

So I saw he was going to combine the regional centers into a much smaller number; what does he think, that these people are just going to supervise 3 times the infrastructure for the same money?
3/ And that’s really the best case scenario. The one “good” thing is that checks themselves are pretty automated. My impression is that there’s not a lot of reason to worry about disruptions there. You can fire a ton of people and that just keeps rolling forward. But like you need forks, there’s…
4/ problem you need resolved then it’s a bad situation. And it will likely hit soon at the point of first contact. Calling the 800 number, going to the local office. Many of those are actually being shut down.
SCOTUS has done such wonderful things for class action law over the entire run of the Roberts Court. I'd have zero faith in that, let alone how long it would get slow walked through the process.
Sorry, but there is not likely any cause of action. Best you can do is phone your members of Congress & complain loudly. While you’re at it badger them to extend authority for Medicare to cover telehealth after March 31.
But the incentives right now for the oligarchy are to cause a temporary disruption and then privatize the whole process, perhaps keeping those already receiving SS whole while cutting future benefits for future retirees
Just like elder care, this is going to cost-shift onto women. Biden was trying to stop the former. I’d like to thank all my contemporaries for voting to spend their retirement years as a free home-health aide.
Most surviving spouses either meet with or schedule a call with a SSA rep to discuss survivor's benefits, so expect scheduled times to be pushed out significantly
There's been a movement over the last few years to eliminate walk-ins in order to maximize customer service. Don't be surprised if you can't go to the local office without an appointment; and, expect those appointments to take longer to schedule because of fewer customer service representatives.
A friend of mine worked in claims for 5+ years - working w/client to gather required documentation, incl ordering tests and Dr exams, and organizing / summarizing this info for SSA Drs to approve / deny. She busted A for clients and had high approval rate.
I told someone from my Congressman’s office - a DEM who is all about bipartisanship and efficient government - that they needed to be prepared for a SSA that didn’t have enough employees to make sure checks were correct much less do anything else. I have not gotten a response yet.
At this point - you are either a champion for big government and federal employees or you don’t give a shit - there is no moderate middle ground or bipartisan solution left.
Had an issue in December 2023 when I 1st went on SS. Calling the 800# was a joke. The local office too. I researched, found an email address for a regional director and COMPLAINED. They called me in 2 days! That was 15 months ago!! And they are cutting jobs I feel so badly for anyone who needs help
I think that’s the point. When the stop payments to people, they won’t be able to get ahold of anyone to fix it. They figure that eventually people will give up. Maybe they should Citizens by Simon Schama to see what happens when the peasants revolt.

This is going to be awful.
