The Senate Republicans at any time could end or temporarily suspend the filibuster rule to pass the House GOP spending bill. It only takes 51 votes. If there is a government shutdown, the GOP is responsible and should be blamed.

I just got through to Gillibrand's NYC office and spoke with Seth in constituent services. He said the phone has been ringing off the hook and NO callers favor voting yes. He said she hasn't announced how she's going to vote, but he recommended to keep calling so she can get more voter feedback.

Every D will vote against the CR. 10-15 of them (at least) will vote for cloture and 100% of them are on board with the surrender on the cloture vote.

I got through to an aide at Gillibrand's LI office. She said G hasn't taken a "position" but is taking down our comments. And the aide dutifully typed everything I said--I could hear her keyboard tapping. HELL NO!! She did say that I wasn't the only phone call on this and everyone else is a NO too.

I understand the difficult position many democrats find themselves in, but it's difficult because they think there's some way to pussyfoot themselves out of it. There isn't: it's show a spine time. Live - and speak - your values, or piss off and make way for someone who will.
