they probably said they would bring him back if they are coerced into signing something that absolves them of any wrong doing cuz his case can destroy this whole admin. This is fuckin dirty ass pool yall!
Me, too. Are they going to release him from CECOT? Seems like the only reason this judge and the plaintiffs would agree to a one-week delay. I imagine they'd send him to a different country and not bring him home, though. I suppose we'll know soon enough.
Well he hasn't been in CECOT since early April, El Salvador moved him to an administrative wing of another prison weeks ago. Van Hollen and Government Status Reports say that.
Honestly I think Bukele moved him to ensure he remains alive, because he knows this situation is untenable, but he cant return him until the US Government requests his return.
JJ weren’t there some flights going from El Salvador CECOT to other areas in South America? I thought I remembered seeing that, unless it’s a fuel stop? I wonder if they’re moving the people who are getting press elsewhere?
Probably an even darker site where they’ll never be found. And then the administration will say “Well, we asked for him back but El Salvador already shipped him somewhere else and we don’t know where. There’s nothing we can do” while Stephen Miller high fives the devil.
Regardless of what the govt committed to, I can’t believe they would trust the govt’s word. As a legal layperson, is the judge able to convey a specific contempt penalty for non-compliance of this unknown agreement…that would scare the govt lawyers?
My lizard brain tells me they are negotiating something, and they will release him once he signs an NDA. Since the entire administration seems to be relying only on lizard brains, I might be right.
Yep. I think DOJ says “we send him back provided you don’t sue the shit out of us”. Typical settlement and classic Trump move: I win, you think you win, but you really lose.
a man without a country. The big question for me is why he is in PRISON at all? I'm sick of this blurring of the meaning 'deportation' and the reality of imprisonment in a dangerous gualg.
May well be but also an attempt to shift it to a foreign affairs matter. My guess is they are negotiating re another country El Salvador will send him to instead.
Could also be dt is at least allowing contact w/ him by his lawyers. Best world is dt said mistake bringing him back to US
It would be so on brand for the Trump administration that the hang-up in getting Abrego Garcia back is because they're haggling with Bukele about pro rating the fee they paid him to house Abrego Garcia in the first place.
Is it possible that a high level admin member is going to be fired to be the fall guy for this whole episode? tRump has already stated he had nothing to do with this & pinned on Rubio…
The DoJ threw up a unexpected argument in the District Court of Massachusetts yesterday in D.V.D. v. DHS, basically saying DHS is not a defendant, because DoD was responsible.
In the public court, but honestly don’t know in the legal courts. I just hope this sets the precedent that this is not okay and a behind the scenes deal might not do that (but maybe it does?). Maybe a lawyer can chime in.
I admit I have no insider information just two really intelligent prosecutors to bounce things off of in my family.
Only one thing in the sealed document that could have made this decision…DOJ is claiming “Privilege!”
They’ll release him, Trump will call it a victory, he’ll have him to the White House for a publicity stunt and afterwards in the room without press Trump will have him sign a NDA under the threat of deportation again.
All of this is illegal and all of them should be brought back as they had zero due process, zero Congress approval to pay to kidnap human beings and send them to an evil dictatorship to their deaths. We aren't nazi Germany!
As this is a case that involves due process rights of an individual, it's not clear to me *how* a "settlement" could be reached to "pause" it. Either they receive due process rights or they don't. There's no alternative remedy to that.

It’s not a prison at all.
that's why they brought him to Van Hollen's hotel.
