I feel like the obsession with trying to be specific with naming generations started with the baby-boomer generation. It made sense in that context. Life had been on hold for 5-7 years fighting a major war, but then the war was over and miraculously a whole lot of babies were born within a year.
... their older brothers & sisters had lived through very tough times (both the depression and the war), and then this group grew up in a very different culture.
Got to make sure that boomers keep blaming all their problems on people 5 years younger than them, rather than the super rich monsters who are actually ruining their lives.
