Central Station, Manchester, opened late 19th century, closed 1969. Modelled on London St Pancras. Now a conference centre. Caught steam trains from here a couple of times as a child.

I remember my Dad reminiscing about trips to London from Central arriving at St Pancras. The line went through the Peak District on what is now the Monsal Trail.
There used to be a more attractive rail trip to London St Pancras through the Peak District than today's Piccadilly to Euston through the flat Cheshire & Midlands planes.

Looking out, the station clock with the Midland Hotel in the background.
