sorry but that’s insane like i can just about accept not having tapping in and tapping out everywhere as tickets can be expensive and people may accidentally overspend, but refusing etickets is just STUPID
It's probably not tbh but who's challenging them? They can choose not to sell e-tickets for their own fares but I believe it is technically possible to get one that could be valid on their services and they probably should have to accept them.
I have had one such fight with a conductor regarding this. Travelling between Preston and Liverpool on any train ticket. Missed the direct Northern train, had to go via Ormskirk. They eventually relented, but someone who knew far less might have had real issues.

Isn’t there a way to file a complaint to a regulatory body about this? Is there such a thing as a railways ombudsman?!
