You are going to LOVE this book. It captures so many aspects of Black history, from slavery to the crack epidemic and beyond, with characters who are complex and feel like real people. I drew this family tree to keep track and it became a bookmark I constantly referenced.
I almost started that yesterday! Ended up going with “Great Circle” this time, mostly because committing to 816 pages for Love Song was a bit intimidating. I hope you enjoy it! Will be awaiting your goodreads review!
I’m a prolific reader and this was by far in the top ten of books I’ve read… I felt sad when I knew I was getting close to the last few pages. Amazing writer; reminds me a bit of Joyce Carol Oates.
On my list too! Am reading "The Bee Sting" which is also pretty amazing family history. Modest plug too for the cast of characters at start of "The Shining Mountains", my intergenerational family story of the multicultural Rocky Mtn West before the onslaught of Manifest Destiny.

I would have cheerfully followed the family for another 800 pages.
