Dependence on stripping resources hollows out industrial capacity and leaves us dependent and vulnerable to hostile foreign powers, e.g the US.
We obviously don't want to do the full autarky, but some industrial policy and economic nationalism would appear to be in order.

It may be that a majority of Canadians are prepared to further harm our remaining forests, rivers, lakes & streams (and the critters that inhabit them) in this moment, but we need to be clear about the trade-offs here. Much of this damage would be irreversible in our lifetimes.

TLDR: it’d be a crying shame if, in response to some of the most narcissistic & selfish assholes of all time (Trump & his MAGA enablers), we trashed the very thing that makes Canada a unique & amazing place to live. Doubly so if we were conned into doing so by MAGA North.
